Canvas Art

Canvas art can be art that is printed on a canvas as well as actual original pieces. The use of stretched canvas for painting became popular in the 16th and 17th centuries. Previously, painters made use of wooden panels. Today, canvas remains the most popular painting surface used.

Different quality of canvas art exists to satisfy different needs. How sturdy and reliable the wooden frame, or stretcher, that the canvas is wrapped around will affect its price. The quality of the wood and fabric will also have an influence.

Canvas art which is meant to be a recreation of a master’s work will exist in varying quality just as original art does. Some pieces may simply be machine-printed copies. Others may be machine-printed with a few hand-painted accents. Still others may be completely hand-painted copies created by a skilled artist. Even then, how “one-of-a-kind” the product is will affect its price.
