Vintage Art

Vintage art is generally an older style of art. There is some disagreement over dates for which the term applies. “Vintage” originated as a term for wine gathering and then shifted to refer to the specific age of wine. Because its original use has nothing to do with art, there isn’t a right answer for what the term means in relation to art.

Some people may use the term vintage art in the same way that they refer to vintage clothing or a vintage car. Clothing is generally called vintage if it was created between the 1920s and the 1980s. A car on the other hand, is commonly called vintage if it is dated between 1919 and 1930.

When it comes to vintage art, some people even use it in reference to Victorian photos and other creations. The Victorian era lasted from 1837 to 1901. Decorative Art Nouveau posters from the turn of the century may also be considered vintage, as well as World War II propaganda posters.
